Curated by OF THREADS
Alma Jimenez Lopez & Sergio Mondragón
At a moment when Mexican American memory, tradition, and contemporary experience face erasure in the United States, Nuevas Herencias turns to making as a means of claiming the present.
To create is to mark time, to say: this existed, this mattered, this is how we lived.
The exhibition becomes an archive in motion, shaped in real time for future generations.
Everything we have inherited as Mexican Americans has brought us here. What will we choose to make with it now?
This exhibition does not attempt to predict the future. It defines the inheritances, stories, and memories being authored today.
OF THREADS is an art-design curatorial collective founded by Alma Jimenez Lopez and Sergio Mondragón that celebrates the work of Mexican American designers and artists in the United States. Through their curatorial efforts, they investigate the deep connections between multiple generations, the blending of Mexican heritage and the American experience.
OF THREADS dedicates itself to expressing the multi-layered narrative, presenting them truthfully as they have been experienced, woven and interlaced like threads. Just as cultural traditions are passed down and adapted, stories of resilience, migration, and family are shared, OF THREADS seeks to recognize the totality of the Mexican-American identity via contribution within the contemporary art and design canon.
