Born and raised in East San Jose, Chris Cisneros Gonzalez is a multidisciplinary artist and first-generation Mexican American. With roots in Guadalajara, Jalisco, his family has a rich history of migration between Mexico and the United States, eventually settling in San Jose, where his parents established roots.
Chris’s exposure to the punk and hardcore scene while growing up in the vibrant Mexican American community of East San Jose deeply influenced his artistic development. The raw, DIY ethos of that scene continues to shape his work, blending bold design and cultural storytelling.
Specializing in screen printing, illustration, and mixed media, his art reflects his heritage, personal identity, and passion for creating impactful, thought-provoking pieces.

This Lightbox is more than an art piece; it is a culmination of my family’s history and my personal journey. As the descendant of store owners in Guadalajara, my roots are deeply tied to hard work, resilience, and creativity. Combined with my background in graphic design and carpentry, this piece represents not only the legacy I inherit but also the new paths I carve for myself.
The phrase “Yo Soy el Sueño” speaks directly to the heart of every Mexican American who has ever felt like they are not doing enough. It is a reminder that no matter where we find ourselves in life, we are living a dream—one that our parents and ancestors envisioned when they sacrificed and struggled for a better life.
Whether we are pursuing careers, making art, raising families, or simply surviving, we are fulfilling their dreams. We embody their hopes by existing in spaces where they dreamed we could freely be ourselves, pursue our passions, and create without limits.
This Lightbox shines not just to illuminate, but to affirm: we are enough, and we are the dream.
